The meeting took place at Tim Parry Community Centre on 14th February 2018.

Cheshire Police advised that the draft SLA for additional PCSO support has been completed and will be with the Parish Council shortly for further discussion. It was proposed and agreed that the Chair, Vice-chair and Clerk meet with the Police and report back to full Council.

Cllr Pennington advised that WHJFC had recently hired a defibrillator for the club, rather than purchasing one and recommended this to the Parish Council as an option to consider when installing the agreed unit at Tim Parry Recreation Ground. The advantages are that this option includes the maintenance contract for the unit.

Great Sankey North Ward Cllr Jan Hart has been successful in sourcing funding to arrange a weekly street cleanse of the paths surrounding the large duck pond in Whittle Hall.

Funding is being provided by Great Sankey Parish Council, WBC and the Land Trust to try and tackle the large number of droppings being left by the birds.

The weekly clean-up will start next week and has been organised in direct response to residents’ concerns about the mess. The clean-up will continue through to March when the service will then be reviewed.

The meeting took place at Chapelford Primary School’s meeting room on 13^th September 2107.

There were several residents in attendance at the meeting to ask the Council for an update on Parsonage Way field. Peter Watson, the Chairman confirmed that the Council is currently obtaining advice and costings from Warrington Borough Council for the drainage, replacement of the boundary railings, tree management, pathway and children’s play area. Once this information is received, the Council will discuss options, update residents and consult further on any proposals

PCSO’s reported that anti-social behaviour has reduced significantly across the Parish. The Police have been targeting youths on bikes who have been riding dangerously, particularly those performing wheelies in front of cars.

It was agreed that the theme for next year’s Great Sankey Summer Fun Day will be Superheroes. The Fun Day will be held at Tim Parry Recreation Ground on Saturday 16^th June 2017.

Great Sankey Parish Council are committed to making our green spaces more beautiful, sustainable and inspiring places to be.

During the year, Warrington Borough Council have transferred the lease on the field at Parsonage Way to the Parish Council. We are presently in the early stages of working with Warrington Borough Council to come up with project scoping, feasibility, and costs for elements to enhance the area for the benefit of the local community.

Initial consultation, 14^th May 2017

The Community Projects Group met on 25^th July to review the report on the consultation from Mersey Forest. The Group felt that the information in the report did not provide a strong conclusion and accepted that there had been some issues with the consultation process. However, people generally supported the idea of improvements, including upgrading the drainage to the field, replacing the existing railings and making the field more accessible with the construction of a path.

Meeting with Warrington Borough Council

A meeting was held with Warrington Borough Council (WBC) for their advice and comments on the proposals and the consultation findings based on their experience of similar schemes. WBC offered further services such as,

Investigation of the drainage issue, including surveying, recommendations and costings for any remedial work required;

Recommendations for tree management, planting, scrub removals and costs;

Options for the removal and replacement of the existing boundary railings, including a new entrance;

Options for a pathway to link Parsonage Way with Liverpool Road;

WBC also commented on the proposal for play equipment. Natural play areas work well where the site can be locked at night – the field at Parsonage Way may not be suitable for this. WBC stated that the installation of a small children’s play area aimed at 0-8 years, sited away from housing and the main road but within view of the road, would be more advantageous if a play area is wanted.

Current Position

The recommendations from the Community Projects Group are for the Parish Council to engage Warrington Borough Council to provide project scoping, feasibility, and costs for the elements listed above. Once this information is received the Community Projects Group will consider any potential funding available and make further recommendations for the field to the Parish Council. No decisions will be made until this information is available, and after further consideration by the Parish Council, residents will be informed.

Residents are enjoying the summer floral display in the barrier baskets at St Mary’s Church crossroads junction.

Back in 2014 Great Sankey Parish Council installed 10 flower boxes at St. Mary’s cross roads which supply an all year round welcome splash of colour for passers by. The winter bedding plants and spring bulbs have been replaced with a summer display of ivy leaved pelargoniums.

Tony Williams, Sankey North Councillor said “We’ve received lots of positive comments about the planters and we’re very pleased that residents are enjoying the flower baskets. The planters are part of a larger commitment to making Great Sankey a more beautiful, greener and inspiring place to live. We will continue to ring the changes throughout the seasons”.

Great Sankey Parish Council are proud to announce the launch of their on-line news page through the Parish Council’s website.

Lynne Brereton, Deputy Clerk said “We’re a very proactive Parish Council and we have some exciting forthcoming projects, the Great Sankey News page will be an excellent way to communicate directly with residents and to keep them up to date on what is happening where we live”

“We also want residents to be actively involved in the news page. We will have a comments section on the page where we would welcome feedback and suggestions.”

The Parish Council would also like to encourage the wider community to contribute to the news page. “We have vibrant community groups that organise events, social groups who meet regularly and thriving local businesses, it will be great to have an on-line place for them to interact with. The more people that use the Great Sankey News page the more diverse and interesting it will be to read” Lynne Brereton said.
