Welcome to the Parish of Great Sankey – a suburb of Warrington, Cheshire, Great Sankey lies about 2 miles to the west of Warrington town centre and mid-way between the cities of Liverpool and Manchester.
Great Sankey now boasts a population of over 25,260 and is continuing to grow. Many people choose to live in Great Sankey because of the great choice of housing, the green space and the excellent transport links. As the Parish has grown so has the Council. The Parish is split into 5 wards, North, South, Central, Liverpool Road and South West with a total of 15 Parish Councillors who take an active part in the running of the Community.
Great Sankey Parish Council manages 5 community centres: Bewsey Barn, Hood Manor, Hood Lane, Tim Parry and Whittle Hall and the Parish Council has invested heavily in the centres in recent years to modernise them and is committed to keeping charges affordable for community groups and organisations. The centres have a wide range of clubs, groups and activities on offer for all ages – details can be found here – and are also available to hire in the daytime for private functions by phoning the Parish Office on 01925 712279 or emailing enquiries@gs-pc.net.
Additionally the Parish Council maintains Tim Parry Recreation Ground, the Parish Playing Field, Lingley Green and Vicarage Community Park in Sankey North, Childs Wood Field in Sankey South, the planters at the crossroads by St Mary’s Church and wildflower planting throughout the parish. The Parish Council sponsors a social club for older residents at Hood Manor Community Centre, Sankey Seniors, to help tackle social isolation, organises Sankey Fun Day each year to give residents a fun, affordable afternoon out and help promote local community groups, provides a low-cost summer playscheme for 4-12 year-olds and installs a Christmas tree in Chapelford near Sainsbury’s each November.
