Budget 2025-26 – why has the precept been raised?
The Parish Council has increased the precept by £7.29 per annum per Band D household with
proportionate increases in the other bands. The council is committed to keeping its precept level
as low as possible for residents whilst providing services which benefit communities and
contribute to the well-being of residents.
Great Sankey Parish Council operates 5 community centres across the parish which provide
quality, affordable space for a variety of community groups, charitable organisations and small
businesses. The community centres provide childcare options at reasonable cost, as well as
health and wellbeing benefits to residents with fitness groups and social clubs for all ages.
Great Sankey Parish Council also manages aa number of open spaces: Tim Parry Recreation
Ground, Lingley Green, Vicarage Community Park, the Parish Playing Field and Childs Wood
Field. The council has made significant improvements to these outdoor spaces over the last
couple of years with it’s in-house grounds team, particularly at Tim Parry Recreation Ground,
Lingley Green and Vicarage Community Park and is determined to continue this good work at
other sites. Feedback from residents has highlighted the difference such spaces make to people
and the way they view their local area, and the council believes that investment in open spaces is
increasingly important as housing density increases.
The increase in the precept is necessary because of the increasing operating costs for the community
centes and open spaces. Hire rates have been increased from April 2025 to alleviate these costs, but
kept as low as possible to avoid undue difficulties for customers. The council also has ongoing projects
to address the drainage on the Parish Playing Field so that the space can be enjoyed all year round, to
create community facilities at the unused Sankey Station buildings and to provide a permanent Estates
Office at Childs Wood Field with associated community space alongside.
